🧑‍💻 Remote workers earn $8600 more than office workers

PLUS what is a "passport bro", the Chinese digital nomad village, Chiang Mai of Europe, and the mega list of the most remote-friendly careers

Hey Insider, Happy Wednesday!

Hope your week is going great and you’re not chocking on the smoke from the Canadian Wildfires like a majority of Canada, US, and even some parts of Western Europe 🤯

Today’s email is a 3min 29sec read:

  • 💻 Why remote workers out-earn their office peers

  • 🎫 What is a “passport bro”

  • ➕ PLUS the Chinese digital nomad village, Chiang Mai of Europe, and the mega list of the most remote-friendly careers

Let’s dive in…

💻 REMOTE WORK

Remote workers earn $8600 more than in-office peers

The perks of remote work are numerous and at this point, we’re all well aware of them: no long commute, pricey lunches, or dreary cubicles.

But now there’s a new, and very juicy, perk… earning more money 💸

New analysis by cloud-based telecom provider Ringover found that on average remote workers earn $8,500 more than their in-office peers

And Ringover is not alone in these findings, others have come to similar conclusions:

Why are remote workers more likely to outearn in-office workers? Good questions, there are a few reasons…

  • Remote workers are able to find jobs around the country, instead of being restricted by their local area

  • Companies that embrace remote work can cut costs and pass those savings on to workers (improving their ability to hire top talent)

  • According to Gusto, remote-friendly jobs by definition often pay better since they are in growing fields and tend to revolve around high paying skillsets

However, the studies did find that the higher pay in remote jobs come with some tradeoffs…

A recent Pew Research Poll found that remote workers feel like they're not receiving the same level of mentorship as in-office employees

Despite that, those same workers are still unwilling to give up working remotely, even if that meant taking a 20% pay cut.

Personally, I believe that many of those mentorship issues stem from a lack of training on how to get mentorship in a digital age. As a work society, we need to develop the muscle for digital mentorship the same way we developed it for the office.

🎒 DIGITAL NOMADISM

Are you a “passport bro”?

Austin Abeyta is a self-proclaimed “passport bro” and runs a TikTok documenting his life and travels with over 430,000 followers.

In case you’ve never heard the term, a passport bro is someone who travels the world and dates foreign women, hoping to find a life partner.

According to Austin, by traveling to new countries for dating he is able to meet women who better reflect the qualities he wants in a partner. Qualities which he felt he couldn’t find dating in the US.
