Let’s dive in…

🔮 FUTURE OF WORK

Web3 freelancing platform DeeLance raises $1.12M

Bitgert Ventures, a Web3-focused VC firm, has invested in DeeLance to help them launch their blockchain-based freelance marketplace.

The main difference between DeeLance and the current “web2 platforms” like Upwork & Fiverr is that DeeLance is built on the blockchain and uses smart contracts as the basis of the employer-freelancer relationship.

This is able to provide both parties with unprecedented security while drastically reducing fees, providing much faster payments, and a host of additional features like escrow and NDAs.

DeeLance says its fees will only be 2% - a record low for the industry, which would surely pull away many people from established marketplaces

🚨 WORD ON THE WEB

Where are all the digital nomads?

Resume.io, an online resume builder, analyzed Instagram posts using the hashtag #digitalnomad and then determined what location the person was in based on the post’s geotag or if a location was mentioned in the post to find out which countries are attracting the most digital nomads.

The data was also processed to remove bots and spam accounts to ensure they didn’t mess up the results.

Here are their key findings:

  • North America dominated the results with NYC, Mexico City, and Miami taking the top spots in the region

  • London was the most popular destination in the world. The other top locations in Europe were Paris & Barcelona with Lisbon coming in 4th

  • Asia’s top spots are familiar favorites Bangkok, Chiang Mai, & Ubud

🚨 WORD ON THE WEB

Even spies want to work remotely

Bruno Kahl, the head of the Bundesnachrichtendienst (or BND for short) which is Germany’s answer to the CIA or MI6, said in a recent interview that they’re really struggling to recruit new spies post-COVID.

"Before Corona, we had 10,000 applicants every year. We could choose the best, but that still wasn't enough," said Kahl

Today’s top recruits are all looking for flexibility and want to work remotely, which Kahl and his compatriots at the CIA say is basically impossible in espionage.

As a remote work proponent, even I understand that…

It will be interesting to see how these agencies try and compete with private companies that can offer top recruits these benefits.
